Biolens is a tool that helps companies manage their emissions.
BioLens exemplifies the next generation of biomethane documentation platforms, developed through collaboration between Fremsyn ApS, Thorsø Miljø og Biogasanlæg, and Swedish partner Biofuel Express with support from the ERA-Net Smart Energy Systems program. The platform addresses the core challenge of creating standardized, comprehensive digital transparency within biomethane production and marketing.
The platform's architecture reflects the multi-stakeholder nature of the biomethane value chain. For biogas plants, BioLens provides tools to easily record and manage substrates, sending substrate lists onward for report generation while empowering plant organizations with automation and real-time insights for regulatory compliance. Administrators gain full visibility across all facilities, can streamline document approvals, and generate mass balances and Proof of Sustainability documents from a single, secure dashboard. Customers receive instant access to sustainability data, certificates, and progress updates, fostering trust through real-time reporting and secure document sharing.
Developed in collaboration with Danish biogas producer Thorsø Biogasanlæg, BioLens's "Minimum Viable Product" was built on actual operational data and workflows, ensuring practical applicability rather than theoretical compliance. The daily consumption data collected by the plant module automatically forms the foundation for end-of-month PoS generation. This data-driven foundation enables sustainability to be evaluated, compared, and traded across countries and borders with unprecedented transparency.
The platform represents Denmark's leadership in biomethane documentation, complementing the country's comprehensive methane monitoring systems and strict regulatory framework. Denmark's approach—which includes third-party leak detection requirements, mandatory annual reporting to the Danish Energy Agency, and integration of biomethane into the natural gas market model with a national certificate register—has positioned it as a model for governance in the sector. BioLens extends this leadership into the digital domain, creating infrastructure that can support Denmark's ambitious goal of 100% biomethane in its gas system by 2030.
Beyond Denmark, BioLens has attracted commercial interest from international biomethane plants seeking to improve their documentation credibility and operational efficiency. This interest reflects a broader recognition that standardized digital platforms are not optional extras but essential infrastructure for the maturing biomethane economy.
